Friday Q & A Find of the week

It's time for the Friday Q & A!  Got something you want to ask?  Post and I'll try to answer it.

I didn't do shopping this week, so my find was actually from a couple weeks ago.  I bought a vintage Sony Dream Machine alarm clock at a flea market.  Paid $5 for it, and just sold it for $59.99 + shipping.  Not a bad return.  Keep your eyes open for anything vintage Sony.  They do quite well!

  1. Thank you Tom for sharing with us! I do have a question about RSS feed. I have called ebay and can not get the right answer. In my store the option for the RSS feed is no longer there. Any thoughts on how I can find it? It used to be on the left hand side. I too did not source new products but I have an auction ending today for a set of 3x Produce Laundry dresses. I picked them up for 5.00 and the bid is up to 51.00 free ship with a few hours to go. 95 views and 8 watchers.

    1. Ebay's RSS feed generator is inconsistent at best. Use this site to generate an RSS feed based on your store name, or item ID:

  2. I heard Griff, host of ebay radio, say that if you opt in to "hassle free returns" your chance of getting "item not as described" cases opened is much less. Because it routes the customer to a different page with more options than opening a case. Works best if you pay shipping both ways, according to Griff. Thoughts?

    1. I tried the hassle free returns and found my "item not as described" cases actually went up. I finally opted out of it and my cases have dropped to almost nothing. The problem is they do not require the buyer to contact the seller if they have a question or problem. If the buyer cannot find the appropriate term for their contact or return, they just say not as described and a case is automatically opened. I won't use it ever again until they fix this problem. Buyers should be required to contact the seller before any case can be opened.

  3. Do you do much in the way of cleaning of shoes you get at thrift stores? Polish them? or just wipe them off? Most of the men's shoes I see are completely beat up.

    1. Yes, I do clean and polish them. I use Folex on the soles and scrub them down, unless they are leather soles. I will use a very fine sandpaper on those. I use Kiwi liquid polish for the tops, except for suede. I use a suede cleaning kit for those.
